What does it cover?

Public Liability:- When you work away from your business premises, you may cause harm to someone else or their property. For instance, you may drop a tool from a height and hit a person and hurt them or start a fire accidentally.

All legal costs are covered plus compensation and a policy will normally cover you for at least £1,000,000.

Public Liability cover for your premises is normally covered by the buildings or contents insurance (although you need to check this).

Products Liability:- When the goods you supply cause harm to your customer or a member of the public

Employers' Liability:- This is a legal requirement for Limited Companies, Limited Liability Partnerships and any other type of employer including voluntary organisations. The only exception (from 1st March 2005) is a Limited Company where the director is the sole worker.

It protects the employer against claims from employees, labour-only sub-contractors, hired people and people working under Government sponsored work schemes, where there has been negligence resulting in their injury or death.

All legal costs are covered plus compensation. You must obtain at least £5,000,000, although most policies provide £10,000,000.
